The Pet Dish

July 2008

Big Dogs, Little Dogs, Funny Dogs, Oh My!
On Saturday, June 7, Santa Barbara went to the dogs. We had the pleasure of participating in the festivities, including the parade, and the Canine Festival immediately following at Chase Palm Park. What an exciting day! I felt the most joy in participating in an event that brings together the entire dog community in the Santa Barbara area. Perfect weather allowed for hours of friendly introductions between people and dogs alike.

During the parade, we walked down State St with enthusiasm – due in part to seeing all the smiling audience and also in part to watching our dogs prancing as though they knew they were stars of the show. We were slowed quite often. Here’s the dish on why – apparently Cesar Milan, who was the Grand Marshall of the parade, was stopping to say hello and take pictures with just about EVERYONE! What a nice guy!

And speaking of the dog whisperer, Cesar gave some inspiring and informative words to the attendees at the Canine Festival following the parade. He reinforced his method of 1. Exercise, 2. Discipline, 3. Affection (in that order).

My personal favorite part of the day was seeing all the costumed dogs (and matching parents). My favorite was the Greyhound “Motorhomes” group. I can’t wait until next year to partake in all the fun and festivities! For those of you who haven’t come out for the fun, mark your calendars now – it’s a blast!
